River

That sound
is it laughing?
A stick has fallen helplessly
into its grasp.
It throws it to its friend
back
and forth,
around
and around.
So many  random directions
who shall catch it next?
The stick falls,
it is free
but only for a moment.
They catch it again
laughing
like kids with a new toy.
So powerful
that nothing in its range
is safe.
Catching, twirling,
tossing, throwing,
and then...
peace.
They have become bored
and the stick floats on
as if nothing ever happened.
